My Passion Project : A infiltration project to Lyft

General Mission

I want to make metropolitan transportation travel more sustainable by providing a flexible peer-to-peer service that drivers and riders can depend on.

My goal in this project is to infiltrate and inspire Lyft with new sustainable approaches that not only promote Lyft Line usage but also adding meaningful value to both Lyft's drivers and riders' journey.


In the last 3 years, the sharing economy has rocketed to mainstream, being bolstered by what call the 'good samaritans' movement. Fueling the sharing economy is the human element that traditional purchasing models lack. Almost all happiness studies show that customer experience increases contentment far more than purchases do, and people intrinsically understand that. The "experience economy" is the product of this. This excites me more than anything else!

Thus, to fully understand the experience economy in the field of transportation, I have created a 30 Days Lyft Line Challenge.

Core Concepts:

Lineup: Ability to schedule a LyftLine ahead of time, which give the system more time to better match routes efficiently.

Hot Spots: Strategically locate commuters' Hot Spots as leverage point to promote Lyft Line. In return, saving trip-time by limiting the number of stops.

Virtual Hot Spots: Micro-moments, such as trailing behind a missed train, and events, such as concerts and ball games.

Drive UP: You're on the way. Everyone is a commuter, drivers are commuters too –– Everyone is a Lyft Driver! Heading to work? Why don’t you pick up someone on the way.


Sample Scenario

Stephen and Brian are both daily casual commuters. Stephen travels between Castro-San Francisco and West Oakland, and Brian travels between Daly City and SoMa. Stephen is a driver. With DriveUP, Stephen is able to make his 'lonely' solo commute to work a community driven commute. By inputting his end-destination and desired arrival/end-time, Stephen is able to pickup and drop-off people who are on the way to West Oakland. Brian on the other hand is a hybrid rider. He uses the BART [Subway] to commute between inner-cities then transfers on ride-share. With Lineup's location patterns calculator, Lineup is able to determine that Brian is currently riding Pittsburg/Bay Point Line, and then calculate a route around his live-transit data, which so happens to be on the way of Stephen's current trip. 

Ultimately, DriveUP can truly reduce unnecessary vehicles on the road. I truly don't believe there's isn't a single person heading a similar direction as you at anytime of the day. If successful, carpooling can reduce 60% of vehicles on the road.
